If you've used both services, you know that Amazon and Netflix stream a lot of the same content. Between the two, the consensus is that Netflix holds the edge in terms of exclusives and overall back catalog, while Amazon gives you the handy option to buy any titles not included with Prime.
But Amazon—beyond its much-heralded HBO contract (see: The Wire, The Sopranos), BBC America shows (e.g., Orphan Black) and growing stable of original series (the award-winning Transparent)—also offers desirable titles of its own. These include new releases like Listen Up Phillip and Michel Gondry's Mood Indigo, interesting indie fare (Monte Hellman's Road to Nowhere), obscure foreign cinema (some admittedly not so great), a surprising number of old exploitation films (Claudia Jennings in Unholy Rollers!), and a catalog of classics that nicely complements Netflix's rapidly shrinking pre-1980 list—for example, noirs like Dark Passage and westerns like
The blog's priority will be noting these types of titles as they appear (or are discovered), then adding the best of them to the exclusive Only On Prime page.
Speaking of which, here are April's PRIME ONLY debuts:
Adaptation (2002)
The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland (1999)
The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994)
Bits and Pieces (1996)
Delicacy (2012)
Dick Cavett's Watergate (2014)
Forever's End (2014)
Ken Burns: The Roosevelts - An Intimate History (2014)
Lay the Favorite (2012)
Little Women (1994)
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (1997)
My Old Lady (2014)
Road to Nowhere (2011)
Submarine (2011)
Time Scanners: Season 1 (2014)
Troy: Director's Cut (2004)
When Harry Met Sally (1989)
Note that PRIME ONLY in this case simply means "not on Netflix." Some of these titles may show up on Hulu or other sites, but for now that's not within my capacity to track. For a complete list of new arrivals, be sure to check out the New This Month page. And of course titles scheduled to leave within the next 30 days should be listed on Expiring Soon.
As with its companion site, What's On PRIME Now? will be as thorough (and current) as possible. But since I only have one set of eyes—and so many hours in a day—a bit of help is always welcome. If any of you stumble upon titles you deem list-worthy, please don't hesitate to let me know via the comments section on the appropriate page. Not only will I be grateful, but so will everyone who comes here to see what's what. Thanks!
To readers old and new, I hope you enjoy your visit. If you do, please spread the word to other Prime users (the URL www.whatsonprimenow.com will take them here). You may also want to take a moment to subscribe—using the little box up top or via an RSS feed—so you can be alerted to new posts as they're published. I did consider porting over all my WoNN subscribers, but of course not everyone has both Netflix and Prime, so the choice is up to you.
As always, happy streaming!
David

Orphan Black is not on HBO. It's on BBC America.
And curses to Amazon for blocking my desire to see The Roosevelts.
Oops. You're totally right and I totally knew that. Thanks, Brian, I'll correct that.
oh, cool... Love your Netflix post and thanks for starting these posts about Amazon Prime!

Hi, Chris. Glad you could stop by!
Where are you locating the expiration dates for Amazon Prime items? Also, are you able to locate TV series expiration dates? Thanks for doing this; Amazon Prime is extremely frustrating!
A combination of sources: my own watchlist, looking up titles individually, and reader comments. It's by no means a perfect system (or all-inclusive), but it at least gives a heads-up on many of the more notable titles--and, yes, that includes TV series. Thanks for your comment.
